Optimizing workflow efficiency for time-strapped surgeons
60% Faster in Time-on-Task for Surgical Case Creation
Impacts
context
Surgeon’s frustration shown the necessity of an intuitive optimization.
CaseBuilder was initially designed to simplify surgical case creation but unintentionally added complexity to surgeons' workflows. Its rigid structure and unfriendly user experience led to frustration and wasted time for surgeons.
User Stories:
How can I change my saved preferences?
It’s very difficult to update a case.
It’s harder to use this than paper forms.
The problem
CaseBuilder's interface and backend structure did not accommodate the dynamic and iterative nature of surgical case creation. Surgeons struggled with inefficiencies, leading to frustration and low adoption.
insights
Intuitive & flexibility are required to achieve efficiency.
I conducted in-depth research through interviews with the co-founder (a practicing surgeon) and three other surgeons, along with workflow observations and usability audits.
